Abstract
Maekmundong is a perennial herb which belongs to Liliaceae.
The root of Maekmundong, which is autogenous in dark place of mountain or cultivated in a farm, is dried for medicine.
The native Korean name of the Maekmundong which grown in Korea is Maekmundong(Liriope platyphylla WANG et TANG).
Grown in China are used as Soyeup Maekmundong (Ophiopogon japonicus KERGAWL.) for medicine, which are named of Yungyecho.
Grown in Japan are used as Soyeup Maekmundong (Ophiopogon japonicus KERGAWL.)for medicine. But sometimes, it is used instead of Gae Maekmundong(Liriope spicata LOUR.).
About the internal morphology of Maekmundongryu, the endodermis of Maekmundong(Liriope platyphylla WANG et TANG.) is turned into lignification, compared with Soyeup Maekmundong (Ophiopogon japonicus KER-GAWL.)
Its vessels are especially developed, and it correlatively has a large number of phloem.
